Expert tree surgeryCrisp, healthy, well-shaped hedges — trimmed, reduced and restored by NPTC-qualified professionals, with every last clipping cleared away. From a single garden hedge in Pontypool to commercial grounds in Newport and Cardiff, we leave a neat finish and a healthier hedge every time.
Hedge cutting and maintenance is the regular trimming, reshaping and height reduction that keeps a hedge neat, dense and healthy. Our NPTC-qualified team cuts, restores and maintains hedges of every type and size across South Wales — from Pontypool and Cwmbran to Newport, Caerphilly and Cardiff — and clears all the green waste away, leaving your garden spotless.
A well-kept hedge gives you privacy, shelter and a beautiful green boundary, but left alone it quickly grows tall, gappy and out of shape. Whether you need a one-off cut to tame an overgrown hedge or regular seasonal maintenance to keep a formal hedge sharp, we shape it to flourish — not just for a season, but for years to come.
From a low box border to a towering leylandii screen, we handle every kind of hedge work. Our most requested hedge services include:
Crisp, even trimming that keeps formal and garden hedges dense, level and looking their best through the year.
Bringing tall, wide hedges back to a manageable size to restore light and keep boundaries in check.
Renovating neglected, gappy hedges with careful hard pruning so they thicken up and recover their shape.
Safely trimming and reducing fast-growing conifer and leylandii hedges, including the tall ones you can't reach.
We work with every common hedging plant in the region — leylandii, Thuja and other conifers, beech, hornbeam, hawthorn, privet, laurel, box and yew — and look after fence-line and boundary planting too. If you are unsure what your hedge needs, just ask; honest advice is always free.
The safest time for major hedge cutting is between September and the end of February. It is against the law to cut or disturb a hedge while birds are actively nesting in it, and the main bird-nesting season runs from 1 March to 31 August under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. We always check a hedge for active nests before starting and time the work to protect wildlife, in line with RSPB guidance on hedges and the law. Light, routine trims can often still be carried out in summer once we have confirmed there are no nesting birds present.
We can trim your hedges and carry out any tree pruning or crown reduction work in the same visit, so the whole garden is finished in one tidy trip. Call 07525 855 019 for a free quote covering everything together.
Most garden hedges stay healthy and tidy with one good cut a year, usually in late summer once nesting season has ended. Formal hedges such as box, privet and yew look sharpest with two trims a year, while vigorous conifer hedges like leylandii often need cutting two or three times a season to keep their height and spread under control. During your free visit we'll recommend a simple maintenance schedule that keeps your hedge looking its best with the least fuss.
As well as homeowners' gardens, we maintain hedges and boundary planting for businesses, schools, pubs, estates, letting agents and commercial grounds right across South Wales. Regular scheduled maintenance keeps a property looking cared-for and professional, and we work around your opening hours and access needs. Every job is fully insured with £5 million public liability and £10 million employer's liability cover.
Clearing up is part of every job, never an afterthought or an extra charge sprung on you later. We chip the clippings on site where we can, remove all the green waste and leave your garden swept and tidy. The brash we collect is recycled into wood chip and seasoned hardwood logs rather than going to landfill, so your hedge cutting helps fuel local homes through the winter.
Family-run since 2013 and based in Torfaen, we have cut, reshaped and restored hedges in gardens and grounds throughout Pontypool, Cwmbran, Newport, Caerphilly and Ebbw Vale. Hedge care is one part of the complete tree care we offer across Pontypool and Torfaen, and we regularly travel out for tree and hedge work in Monmouth and to look after gardens and grounds around Abergavenny. With our own well-maintained equipment, proper qualifications and a genuine care for the finish, we deliver dependable hedge maintenance at a fair, honest price. Your hedges are in safe, tidy hands.

Late summer to early autumn, once the main nesting season has ended, is ideal for most established hedges, as it keeps them neat through winter. Formal hedges may need a lighter second cut in late spring. Fast-growing conifers such as leylandii often need trimming two or three times a year to stay in shape.

Yes. Clearing up is part of every job. We chip the clippings on site where possible, remove all the green waste and leave your garden swept and tidy. The brash we collect is recycled into wood chip and seasoned firewood rather than going to landfill.
The cost depends on the length and height of the hedge, how overgrown it is and how easy it is to access. We give a clear, no-obligation quote after a free site visit anywhere in South Wales. Because we own our own equipment, our prices stay fair with no hidden charges.
Yes. We regularly reduce the height and width of overgrown hedges that have got out of hand, bringing them back to a manageable, attractive size. For tall conifer hedges we reduce them carefully and evenly so they stay dense and green rather than leaving bare, brown patches.
Most native and deciduous hedges, such as hawthorn, beech, privet and laurel, respond very well to hard renovation pruning and grow back thicker. Conifers like leylandii will not regrow from old brown wood, so we reduce these as far as is safely possible without cutting into bare growth. We advise honestly on what each hedge will tolerate.
Yes. Leylandii, Thuja and other conifer hedges are among the most common we maintain. We trim them to keep them tidy, reduce overgrown ones in height and width, and tackle the tall hedges that many gardeners cannot reach safely from the ground.
